Halloween is becoming more fun each year as Eli gets a
little older. I am always on the lookout
well in advance of a unique and fun costume idea for him, especially since it
won't be long before he will have his own ideas.
First, here's a look back through the years (...all 3 of
them):
I still have a couple of fun costume ideas for him when he
gets a little older, so I was a bit stumped this year for ideas even after
searching online. When I asked Eli what
he wanted to be for Halloween this year, he mentioned a witch. (Really??)
I think at the time, it was the only word he really associated with
Halloween or maybe he remembered reading about a witch in a Halloween
book. I let the idea go for some
time. Then, when Halloween was getting
closer, I asked him again, and he still seemed to be fixated on the witch
idea. I scrolled through different
images of costumes online for him to choose from, trying to entice him to
consider other alternatives and thinking he might take the superhero route
since that seemed to be a popular choice this year. He wasn't really interested in anything I
showed him...until I came across a picture of a witch costume and his eyes
totally lit up! As soon as the costumes
were out the next time we went to Walmart, we took a stroll down the aisle and
I showed him his options. His initial
wish to be a witch was replaced by Batman, or maybe he went with it because it
was one of the few options I showed him and he was excited there was something
going in the cart that was actually for him this time. When we got home, I wanted to try it on to
see if it even fit him, and he wanted nothing to do with it. Later, he came around and really liked his
Batman costume.
A couple weeks later, my aunt sent me a link to a DIY costume
idea - Carl from the movie Up.
As soon as I realized we pretty much had
everything it would take to put this costume idea together, I knew we had to do
it! Then, I talked myself out of it
since we already had the Batman costume, and I wasn't sure how we would
construct Carl's walker/cane, but after I found out Ian was on board with the
idea and was truly excited to help with the project, we decided to go with
it. Plus, Eli has seen this movie
countless times and even had lines memorized from it.
There you have it - Batman and Carl.
